In an effort to improve the team’s depth at the cornerback position, the Saints signed former Green Bay Packer Demetri Goodson on October 4. Selected by the Packers in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Goodson started three games and played in 26 before suffering a knee injury in week 11 of 2016. He returned from injury midway through 2017, but shortly after that, he suffered a hamstring injury. The 29-year-old was released by Green Bay prior to the start of the 2018 season.
A two-sport athlete in college, Goodson played basketball at Gonzaga and football at Baylor. Through 103 career games on the court with Gonzaga, he averaged 5.1 points and two assists; he also scored the game-winning shot in Gonzaga's 83-81 win over Western Kentucky to advance the team to the third round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. As a member of Baylor's football team, Goodson registered 43 tackles and four interceptions through 19 games.
